The Stairway to Heaven
Cor's first trip
I was a junior in high school the first time I experimented with psychedelics. It was the night before Thanksgiving. I was at my boyfriend’s house, along with a few of our friends. I remember being a little nervous, but also excited to satiate my curiosity. We were all sitting in the garage, when my boyfriend pulled out the bag of dried mushrooms. He told me that it wasn’t going to taste good, but I just had to “choke them down.” I stuffed the dried mushrooms into a Hostess Cupcake. It was definitely not the most pleasant part of the experience, but I ate them.
A Good Trip. A Bad Trip.
Nick's early experiences
My first experience with psychedelics was during junior year of high school. I was 17 years old. Some friends and I wanted to explore another inebriating substance, so we got a hold of some mushrooms.

Late one night, in my parents basement, we made little mushroom & BBQ chip sandwiches. Chips on the outside, with a mushroom as the meat in the middle. As the trip began to take hold, I felt my mouth and eyes begin to water. I also had a peculiar tingling in my stomach that mildly resembled nausea.
Psychedelics made me a better mom.

Psychedelics came back into my awareness in late 2019. Nick was suffering from severe depression and anxiety, and I was looking into alternative treatments in order to help him. It wasn’t until then that I began to understand all the potential that psychedelics hold.
During my research I found that microdosing psychedelic substances was benefiting people in so many ways beyond depression and anxiety. The studies were promising, and I wanted to see if microdosing could enhance my life as well.
Psychedelics saved my life.
- Nick
My struggles with depression began in 2016, but really came to a head in 2021. Cor and I learned about microdosing in 2019. Then started experimenting with it in 2020. However, I never committed to a regimen and was very inconsistent in my practice. While it helped with my anxiety and mood, I still struggled majorly with my mental illness.
Fast forward to May 2022- I was at my all time low. I was severely depressed and suicidal.
"“Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behaviour and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong.”
